Logo, Branding, and Multi-Channel Advertising
Since 2020, I have served as an in-house graphic designer at Newell Elementary School, in Charlotte, NC. Over my four-year tenure, I had the honor of designing a fresh school logo, as well as producing a diverse range of print and digital materials, such as communications to parents, athletic schedules, event flyers, and advertisements.
Logo Makeover
The Old
The original mascot logo was a hand drawn cartoon wolf, and later became wolf paw. Under the current school administration, an updated mascot logo became one of the first orders of business in an effort to modernize the look of the school.
The New
The new logo features a modern and sophisticated mascot and carefully paired with a a typeface that is fun, yet serious. This logo is now the officially recognized mascot logo for Newell Elementary by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Typography
The Newell Elementary logo uses two main typefaces, Bakerie and League Spartan.
Bakerie is a playful, whimsical, and friendly modern script typeface, that conveys childlike wonder and creativity.
League Spartan is a strong, geometrical sans-serif typeface. This type conveys strength and confidence, which is a symbol of the school's commitment to academic achievement.
The new logo also uses the Kagitingan typeface for the school's basketball team. It can also be used as an alternate to the two main typefaces.
Kagitingan is much like the wolf (the school's mascot). It is a bold, sharp, and dynamic typeface that stands out with pride and determination.
School Colors
The primary color for Newell Elementary school are Heroic Red, with matched with black and white. Heroic Red is a bold and vibrant color that is full of energy and confidence, while symbolizing courage, strength, and leadership. It is balanced with black and white, which adds contrast to the logo. Together, the three colors evokes a sense of pride, unity and determination to succeed.
